To foster hope and understanding by sharing faith, prayer, friendship, and life with our sister community of Agua Blanca, El Salvador.
The sister community relationship between Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the faith community of Agua Blanca, Morazan began in 1998. A delegation from our parish visited our sister community in the summer of 2000. The experience opened our hearts to the poor people of El Salvador. Ministry members have visited the people of Agua Blanca more than 20 times since then.
Agua Blanca did not have a church building, but they nevertheless had a celebration of the Word every Sunday at one of the homes. We committed to helping building a chapel in Agua Blanca so our friends will have a place of worship, prayer, and ministry. Through the blessings of God, this chapel has become a reality.
Our ministry emphasizes sharing friendship and solidarity through empowerment projects that have a long-term benefit for the spiritual, mental, and physical well-being of our sister community. The major ongoing project is providing scholarships so students can continue their education beyond the ninth grade. We have had three students graduate from the university and 39 students graduate from high school. Currently we have nine high school scholarship students and 12 university scholarships.
We have been amply blessed by the experience and friendship of the people in Agua Blanca. We wholeheartedly welcome new members to this ministry. We are planning another trip to El Salvador in the summer of 2018. Our meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month, usually in Room 105, but we have quarterly social meetings at members’ homes, so contact one of the persons listed below for better details.
