Lectors proclaim the Word of God in the Liturgy and special Liturgical gatherings. At the Sunday Masses and weekday Masses, members have been trained and are scheduled to read one of the first or second readings from the Scripture readings in the Liturgy of the Word as provided in the Lectionary. Throughout the Liturgical Year these readings are the same in every Roman Catholic Church. There is a three year cycle that moves from Year A, to Year B, and to Year C. In Masses celebrated in Spanish, the readings are in Spanish.
A background in the Bible is helpful when proclaiming the Word. A Workbook for Lectors with the appropriate readings, is provided with training. Careful preparation is needed to provide the best speed, tone, stress, and fluency. Prayerful study of Scripture may provide spiritual growth for those who undertake this ministry.
Prince of Peace Catholic Church Lectors meet at least once a year.
