"Prince of Peace Catholic Church"

PASTORAL COUNCIL: It has a threefold mission: 1. to make an inventory of the needs of the parish, 2. to discern who has what gifts, skills or ministry to be placed at the service of the parish, 3. to serve as a planning and coordinating body for creating and implementing a realistic parish plan that is life-giving to the parish.

There are five standing Commissions on the Pastoral Council:

1. Liturgical Commission

4.Outreach/Service Commission
5. Parish Life Commission

LITURGICAL COMMISSION

ALTAR SERVERS: Young people beginning with the third grade and including high school youth who assist the Presider in the celebration of the Mass and other Liturgical functions. John Coignet 

 

CHURCH ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY: Responsible for the art and environment in the church as well as caring for the vestments and linens. Lydia Garcia 681-8330

 

COMMENTATOR: Prepares the assembly for worship by introducing ideas from the scriptures of the day. Sets a welcoming tone for the liturgy and makes the announcements. Mitzi Bernal

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: Serve the precious Body and Blood of Christ at the Liturgies. May take Communion to the sick/ homebound. This is an appointed position but names can be taken to be submitted to the Pastor and Archbishop. Leonard Cortinaz (Parish Office): 681-8330

 

EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY TO THE SICK/ HOMEBOUND: Selected Eucharistic Ministers who have completed special training bring the message of  a loving, caring Church by taking Communion to the sick/homebound. Call the Parish Office at 681-8330.

 

LECTORS: Proclaim the Word of God at the Liturgy and special Liturgical gatherings. Mitzi Bernal 

FINANCE BOARD: Oversees the finances of the parish, prepares and monitors annual budget.

MUSIC: Provided by five choirs leading the assembly in song during the celebration of the Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

USHERS: Responsible for greeting, ushering, providing good order during worship, collection of gifts, distribution of bulletins and setting a warm hospitable atmosphere for the liturgy. Parish Office 681- 8330

PRAYER AND DEVOTIONS

CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP: Meets on Monday at 7 p.m. for praise and thanksgiving to God with scripture reading and singing. Leonor Madrid 

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: Every day, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Naomi Espinoza   or Gloria Guardiola 

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS: Meets every first Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the praying of the Rosary before 5 p.m. Mass.

ROSARY PRAYER GROUP: Meets on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the praying of the Rosary, the Liturgy of the Hours, and scripture sharing. Sponsors special events honoring Mary.

KID'S DAY OUT (K.D.O.): Conducted for preschool children on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. There is a fee and hired personnel for this program.

MISSION MINISTRY: The Prince of Peace El Salvador Mission Ministry fosters hope and understanding by sharing faith, prayer, friendship, and life with our sister community of Agua Blanca, El Salvador. We work with the people of Agua Blanca on empowerment projects that have a long-term benefit for their spiritual, mental, and physical well-being..

SINGLES OPENLY LOVING OUR SAVIOR (SOLOS): A singles organization for men and women, age 19 or older, to offer support and a challenge to greater Christian Commitment.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: An international Catholic organization of lay persons who seek to help those in need with food, clothes, financial help or referring them to help elsewhere. Some projects are: serving food to the homeless at the SVDP Dining Hall, clothing drives, food bank drives, and gifts during the holiday season.

STEPHEN MINISTRY: Trained people who provide a Christian Care ministry to reach out to those who are hurting spiritually, emotionally or physically. PARISH LIFE COMMISSION

ACTS RETREAT: A three day Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners. This weekend presents an opportunity to concentrate on one's spiritual well being, learn more about one's faith, and experience the warmth of our parish family. Leonard Cortinaz (Parish Office) 681-8330.

ARTS AND CRAFTS: Meet to share our talents. Making arts and crafts. Articles are made for the annual festival.

GOLDEN FRIENDSHIP CLUB: An organization to benefit senior citizens build friendships with fun and fellowship.

FORMATION COMMISSION

Young Adult/Adult Religious Enrichment

ALPHA: This is a course on basic Christianity, which will be used for the pre-catechumenate process for RCIA. It is designed for non-churchgoers and new or inactive Christians.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION: Prepares parents and godparents for the Sacrament of Baptism. Classes are held on the 1st and 2nd Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Parents MUST speak to a parish representative and register before attending the classes. Deacon Art Marin (Parish Office) 681-8330

COUPLES SHARED PRAYER RETREAT: A weekend to explore with your spouse a life of shared prayer. Fun and fellowship with other couples is a bonus of this weekend. Leonard Cortinaz 681-8330

DISCOVERY BIBLE GROUP/LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY: Bible classes designed to study the Scripture with emphasis on the Holy Spirit. Come experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we build community through fellowship and faith sharing.

MOTHER'S ENRICHMENT GROUP: Meets on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. for support, personal growth, and enrichment. Nursery is available.

R.C.I.A. – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: Welcomes adults who wish to be baptized in the Catholic Faith, adults already baptized in other Christian religions who wish to follow the Catholic Faith and baptized adults who desire to receive the Eucharist or Confirmation in the Catholic Church.

SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUPS: Small groups of people meet in parishioners homes weekly or biweekly to read the Sunday scriptures and apply them to their daily lives. Parish Office 681-8330

Religious Education for Children

KINDERGARTEN thru FIFTH GRADE: Meet on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. or Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 noon for religious education geared to their age/level. The children join their families in church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Michael Loflin (RE Office) 681-5063

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Children are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist beginning in the first grade. This is a 2-year program. Parental participation is required. Michael Loflin (RE Office) 681-5063

R.C.I.A. (Adapted for Children): Children 7 years of age and older who are not baptized enroll in this program. Parents and children will also gather weekly Wednesdays at 7 p.m. throughout the year to prepare for Baptism and Eucharist. Children in the fourth grade and older who have not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist will also attend classes on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Parents also attend classes. MIDDLE SCHOOL: Grades six to eight meet on Sunday afternoon at 1:45 p.m., or Sunday evening at 5:45 p.m. All are encouraged to attend Mass before or after class. Theresa Dembeck (RE Office) 681-5063

HIGH SCHOOL: Grades nine to twelve meet on Sunday afternoons at 1:45 p.m., or Sunday evening at 5:45 p.m. A four year curriculum is followed. Students are encouraged to attend Mass before or after class.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION: Youth receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the eleventh or twelfth grade. The entire High School Curriculum is required. Parental participation is expected. Theresa Dembeck (RE Office) 681-5063

YOUTH MINISTRY: Designed for youth in grades six to twelve. A program that includes opportunities for service, classroom experiences, youth fellowship gatherings, spiritual and moral development, and weekend retreat. Carlos & Margaret Cerna 681-5063

QUEST RETREAT PROGRAM: Retreat program focusing on the journey in Christ geared for Freshman and Sophomores in High School. The team includes both adults and older, experienced youths. RE Office 681-5063
