Liturgical ministries

ALTAR SERVERS: Young people, beginning with 3rd grade and including high school youth, assist the Priest in the celebration of the Mass and other Liturgical functions. 

ALTAR SOCIETY: Responsible for the art and environment in the church as well as caring for the liturgical vestments and altar cloths.

COMMENTATORS: Prepares the assemble for worship by introducing ideas from the scriptures of the day. Sets a welcoming tone for the liturgy and makes the announcements. 

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION: Serve the precious Body and Blood of Christ at the Mass. May take communion to the sick/homebound. 

PRINCE OF PEACE PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY: Volunteer parishioners who have completed training who bring the message of a loving, caring Church by taking Communion to the sick/homebound. This ministry serves local hospitals, nursing homes, the homebound,       hospices, and memory care centers. Call the parish office 210-681-8330

LECTORS: Proclaims the Word of God at the Liturgy and special Liturgical gatherings. 

MUSIC: Provided by six choirs leading the assembly in song during the celebration of the Mass and other Liturgical celebrations. Parish Office (210) 681-8330

USHERS: Responsible for greeting, ushering, providing good order during Mass, collection of gifts, distribution of bulletins, and setting a warm hospitable atmosphere for Liturgy. 

SACRISTANS: Help prepare the altar for the Mass and the liturgical needs that go along with each Celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

CORO DE ESPAÑOL: Dirige la parroquia a cantar durante la celebración de la Misa y otras celebraciones litúrgicas en español. La práctica del coro será los domingos a las 12.45 p.m. en el salón 102.

LECTORES Y MINISTROS DE LA COMUNIÓN: Ayudan en la misa en español, todos los domingos a las 2:30 p.m.,

CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP: The Charismatic Prayer Group gathers for prayer, praise and worship, fellowship, and an opportunity to learn more about the full role of the Holy Spirit. Meets on Mondays at 6:45pm in portables 1 & 2.  

DIVINE MERCY PRAYER GROUP: A Roman Catholic lay ministry which proclaims and promotes the truth of the real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Meets every Monday at 7pm. “Cal” Caliva

EL GRUPO DE ORACIÓN DIVINA MISERICORDIA EN ESPAÑOL: Grupo de crecimiento de fe a través de la oración y la acción espiritual con amor, fe y esperanza. Todos los lunes de 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. en el salón 1 y 2.

GRUPO DE ORACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL: Este ministerio comienza los jueves de 7 pm a 8:30 pm con canciones de alabanza llenándonos del espíritu santo. Habrá enseñanzas de la santa escritura, los sacramentos, testimonios, invitados de música o algunos discursos. Tenemos oraciones de salvación con nuestro bienestar en Jesucristo. Serán en el portátil numero 2 atrás de la Iglesia.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION MINISTRY: Promotes Eucharistic Adoration by inviting the laity to commit to praying before the Blessed Sacrament for an hour a week. As a Eucharistic  adorer, our love and reverence for the Lord increases and He increases in us.  

SUNDAY LITURGY STUDY GROUP: Meets on Tuesday at 7 p.m. expanded upon by the Homilist. Study is preceded by Adoration while praying the Rosary followed by "Liturgy of the Hours" so as to set a spiritual mood for discernment. 

ROSARY GUILD: Teaches the fine art of Rosary Making Rosaries are made for many ministries at Prince of Peace and around the world. 

ROSARIO EN FAVOR DE LA VIDA (PRO LIFE ROSARY): Grupo que promueve el rezo del rosario y los devociones Marianas a favor de la vida.  Se lleva acabo cada miércoles a las 9:00 de la mañana en la Iglesia después de la Santa Misa.

YOUNG ADULTS MINISTRY: Empowers young people to live courageously chaste, and Catholic, lifestyles.  

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS: Meets every first Saturday for the praying of the Rosary before 5pm Mass. 

FRIDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY: Offers the opportunity to  journey into our  faith by learning more about the Bible, Catholicism and    evangelization. With differing studies throughout the year, there are small group discussions followed by a video presentation during our meeting time.

FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS: Meets every first Friday of the month to celebrate Mass, then consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Followed by fellowship and listening to a spiritual reflection or presentation.

FAITH SHARING GROUPS: Bible classes designed to study the Scripture with emphasis on the Holy Spirit. Come experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we build community through fellowship and faith sharing.

ARTS AND CRAFTS: Meet to share the talent of making arts and crafts. Articles are made for the annual sale.

Outreach ministries

EL SALVADOR MISSION MINISTRY: Building a relationship between the community of Agua Blanca in El Salvador and the Prince of Peace Community. 

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Prince of Peace Conference, is a Catholic organization of lay persons united to assist needy families in our community with food, clothing, and financial assistance. Vincentians participate in special projects to assist families at Thanksgiving and Christmas and volunteer to serve meals to the homeless at St. Vinny’s Bistro.

GUADALUPANOS SOCIETY: An organization designed to honor and venerate Mary, under the title of, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Membership is open to both men and women. w

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: A Catholic fraternal organization of men dedicated to providing service to the community, council, family, and youth, through charitable works and support. 

LADIES AUXILIARY: Wives of the Knights of Columbus who provide service to the church community. 

WELCOMING COMMITTEE: Dedicated to making new parishioners and guests of our parish feel at home and a part of our family. Holds welcoming luncheons for newly registered parishioners throughout the year. Meets every 4th Monday of the month.  

CATHOLIC YOUTH ORGANIZATION (CYO): A sports program for youth from kindergarten through the 12th grade.

MILITARY MINISTRY: For all veterans and active duty military to grow in faith together through family and veteran events. Members meet with other veterans and military members within our parish community to develop comradery through Christ.

PRINCE OF PEACE RETREAT MINISTRY: Helps plan and facilitate retreats for adults. This ministry presents an opportunity to concentrate on one’s spiritual well being, learn more about one’s faith, and experience the warmth of our parish family. 


MARRIED COUPLES RETREAT: To strengthen the bond between God, man, and wife.

THAT MAN IS YOU Ministry: Interactive men’s group focused on the development of men in the modern world. It combines the science research, teachings of the Catholic faith and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of authentic men capable of transforming themselves, their families and greater society. Meets Mondays 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in the Hall for snacks, a video and discussion.

A.M.S.I.F. (Asociación Mexicana para la Superación Integral de la Familia): Promueve la Formación Integral de la  Mujer buscando su desrrollo y proyeción en su familia y comunidad.  Areas de formación: evangelización, familia, cocina y otros talleres.  Reunion: todo los martes.  Horario: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

SURVIVING DIVORCE: A program dedicated to offering healing and hope to those affected by divorce or a separation, no matter how long it has been.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION: Call the Deacon for appointment to make arrangements for preparation at least 6 months in advance of the desired date. Attendance at preparatory programs,   Engaged Encounter or Pre-Cana classes is expected.  

MARRIAGE CONVALIDATION: For those who were not married in the Catholic Church, but wish to be. Call the Deacon for appointment to make arrangements for preparation at least 6 months in advance of the desired date.  


KINDERGARTEN THRU FIFTH GRADE FAITH FORMATION: Meet Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 noon for Faith Formation geared to their age/level. The children join their families in church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Rosemary Hernandez (Faith Formation Office) 210-681-5063 ext. 18

R.C.I.A. (Adapted for Children): Children 7 years of age and older who are not baptized enroll in this program. Parents and children will also gather weekly Wednesdays at 7 p.m. throughout the year to prepare for  Baptism and Eucharist. (see Barbara Forde, Faith Formation Office.) Children in the fourth grade or older who have not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist will also attend classes on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Parents also attend classes. EDGE (MIDDLE SCHOOL): Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Edge resources speak to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of middle school youth. Edge resources make it easier for youth ministers to plan out their semesters of Edge Night, retreats, and to train a team of adults, the Core Team, to assist them in the ministry. The resources present Catholic teaching in a way that young people can understand.

LIFE TEEN (HIGH SCHOOL): As a Eucharist-centered movement within the Roman Catholic Church, Life Teen leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. With the Blessed Virgin Mary as our intercessor and guide, Life Teen seeks to unleash the fullness of the Sacramental power present within the young Church.

MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT PROGRAM(S): Two seperate retreat programs focusing on the journey in Christ geared for middle school & high school studentsl. The team includes both adults and older, experienced youths. Check the bulletin/Facebook page for retreat info. RE Office (210) 681-5063

R.C.I.A. - RITE of CHRISTIAN INITIATION of ADULTS: Welcomes adults who wish to be baptized in the Catholic Faith, adults already baptized in other Christian religions who wish to  follow the Catholic Faith and baptized adults who desire to receive the Eucharist or Confirmation in the Catholic Church.  Classes are Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Hall.  Barbara Forde (Faith Formation Office) 210-681-5063 ext. 22

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION: Youth receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the eleventh or twelfth grade. The entire High School Curriculum is required. Parental participation is expected. Desiree Arenas (Faith Formation Office) 210-681-5063 ext. 27 

YOUTH MINISTRY: Designed for youth in grades six to twelve. A program that includes opportunities for service, classroom experiences youth fellowship gatherings, spiritual and moral development, and weekend retreat. Desiree Arenas (Faith Formation Office) 210-681-5063 ext. 27

KID'S DAY OUT (K.D.O.) &  MOTHERS'S DAY OUT (M.D.O.): Conducted for preschool children during the week (KDO: Tuesdays and Thursdays) (MDO: Mondays and Wednesdays) throughout the school year.  Karolyn Mata 210-681-5063 ext. 19

BAPTISM: Parents and Godparents must attend two Baptism preparation  classes which prepares parents and godparents for the Sacrament of Baptism. Parents MUST speak to Deacon Tim and register before attending the classes. Baptisms can be scheduled only after completion of Baptism classes and submission of required documents to the Parish Office.

FIRST COMMUNION: Children are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist beginning in the first grade. This is a 2 year program. Parental participation is required. Rosemary Hernandez (Faith Formation Office) 210-681-5063 ext. 18
